Senator Monday Okpebholo, has condemned the brutal murder of Mr. Joel Umwueni Isibor, a Benin-based realtor and businessman, calling on security agencies to urgently fish out his killers. The 42-year-old estate developer was shot at close range by unknown gunmen who stormed his store penultimate Friday.
Speaking through the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, during a condolence visit to the family, Okpebholo said he received the news with “rude shock,” and was deeply touched by the loss of such a vibrant and energetic young man. Idahosa visited the Isibor family on Sunday to commiserate with them.
Governor Okpebholo assured the family that the state would leave no stone unturned in tracking down the perpetrators. He warned criminals to leave Edo State immediately, stressing the government’s zero tolerance for criminal activities and promising that the full weight of the law would be used to deter others.
He further stated that the government would collaborate closely with security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident, reiterating the administration’s commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens. “We will not compromise our stand on dealing decisively with criminals and their collaborators,” he stated.
Responding, the late businessman’s wife, Mrs. Joel Isibor, thanked the state government for its prompt support and described her husband’s death as “a heinous crime against humanity.” She revealed that the attackers ambushed her husband while he was locking up his shop and shot him without provocation, confirming that nothing was stolen from the premises.
Mrs. Isibor appealed to the government to thoroughly investigate the killing, noting that her husband, who was the family’s breadwinner, deserved justice. She stressed that the attack appeared to be a “well-orchestrated case of assassination.
