Edo Partners with NELFUND to Expand Education Loan Access

The Edo State Government has partnered with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to extend tuition-free tertiary education and monthly stipends to students in state-owned institutions. This initiative aims to make higher education more accessible and affordable for Edo students, reducing financial burdens on parents.

Commissioner of Education, Dr. Pally Iyamu, announced the partnership ahead of a two-day sensitization program (March 11-12, 2025) across Edo’s three senatorial districts. He urged students to take advantage of the opportunity, which ensures they can study without paying tuition upfront while receiving N20,000 monthly stipends for living expenses.

Dr. Iyamu also commended Senator Monday Okpebholo and President Bola Tinubu for championing the initiative, noting that it will help curb student dropout rates caused by financial constraints.

NELFUND, launched in May 2024, provides interest-free loans for higher education, vocational training, and skills acquisition. Repayment begins two years after completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This partnership strengthens Edo’s commitment to quality education, ensuring that no student is denied access due to financial hardship.
