Education Ministry Clarifies: No Scrapping of JSS, SSS in New Proposal

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports claiming that the Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) systems will be scrapped in favor of a new 12-year uninterrupted basic education model.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, clarified on Friday that the proposal presented during the Extraordinary National Council on Education (NCE) meeting in Abuja is still under discussion and not an immediate policy change. The proposal aims to transition Nigeria’s education system to 12 years of compulsory education within the existing 6-3-3 framework.

Dr. Alausa urged the public to disregard misleading reports and emphasized that the proposal is open for further deliberation before any decisions are made.
