Patience Key, has urged the federal government to address the issues raised by Ushie Rita Uguamaye, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, rather than intimidating her. Uguamaye’s viral video criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, sparking backlash from authorities.
Key, a 2023 presidential aspirant, praised Uguamaye’s courage to voice the harsh realities of Nigeria’s economic challenges. In a statement on Tuesday, Key condemned any attempt by the NYSC or government institutions to silence Uguamaye, describing her as a patriot, not an enemy of the state.
“The Nigerian people deserve better. We will not stand by and watch this country sink further into dictatorship and oppression,” Key declared, calling on the government to listen to Uguamaye instead of threatening her.
Key also criticized the double standards of targeting Uguamaye while corrupt politicians who have looted Nigeria’s resources remain unpunished. She emphasized that genuine leadership requires listening to citizens and addressing their concerns, not using intimidation tactics.
Addressing Nigerian youths, Key encouraged them not to be silenced by fear. “Your voice matters. Do not let fear silence you. Do not let oppression win,” she asserted.
In a final message to the government, Key demanded that leaders focus on service and accountability, urging them to “do the work and earn the trust of the people instead of bullying them into submission.”
