Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, has claimed that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s beauty has posed challenges for her political career, drawing unwanted attention from men.
Senator Natasha was suspended from the Senate following a clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements. Before her suspension, she alleged that Akpabio’s issue with her began after she rejected his sexual advances—a claim the Senate has not formally addressed.
Speaking on Arise News Channel, Ogunlewe criticized Natasha for what he described as “inexperience” in handling the dispute with Akpabio but also insisted that the Senate had no legal right to suspend an elected Senator. He argued that courts have ruled against such suspensions and described the situation as an administrative error.
However, he controversially suggested that Natasha’s beauty was a problem, stating that men naturally react when they see an attractive woman. “When a pretty woman walks past, men will look. It’s inbuilt,” he remarked. He further implied that female politicians should be “skilful” in navigating such situations.
Ogunlewe downplayed sexual harassment concerns, saying, “When someone toasts you, you have the right to refuse.” He advised Natasha to have reported her concerns to her husband or political party leaders instead of making public allegations.
On resolving the issue, Ogunlewe urged former Senate Presidents and senior lawmakers to intervene privately with Akpabio instead of criticizing him in the media, emphasizing the need to protect the Senate’s image.
