FCT Minister Approves 34 Doctors for Residency

Nyesom Wike, has approved the employment of 34 resident doctors for a seven-year residency training program. This marks the first phase of a total of 60 medical trainees approved for employment in FCTA hospitals.

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday. He noted that this is the first time such recruitment is being done outside the Health Management Board, allowing more doctors to join the healthcare system in the FCT.

The newly employed doctors will specialize in various fields, including psychiatry (5), internal medicine (4), general surgery (1), anesthesiology (1), family medicine (8), ophthalmology (6), and obstetrics & gynecology (9).

Olayinka further announced that the FCTA Civil Service Commission would soon begin the recruitment process for the remaining 26 resident doctors. These will include one doctor for psychiatry, four for internal medicine, eight for general surgery, five for anesthesiology, and eight for pediatrics.

This move is expected to boost healthcare delivery in the FCT by bringing in skilled medical professionals across multiple specialties. The recruitment process for the remaining doctors is set to commence in the coming weeks.
