The Federal Government has directed telecom operators to reverse the recent 10% increase in tariffs for some voice and data services, a move aimed at preventing potential hardships for Nigerian consumers.
In a statement issued by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), it was revealed that while the tariff adjustment had been provisionally approved, it lacked final approval from the Commission’s Board. Consequently, the government has mandated a reversal of the increase while further consultations are carried out with industry stakeholders to develop a fair approach that serves both consumers and service providers.
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, emphasized his commitment to protecting consumers and maintaining a conducive environment for telecom operators, pointing out that any policy likely to impose further hardship would not be accepted.
