Barr. Hannatu Musawa, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to Nigeria’s traditional institutions during a courtesy visit to the newly crowned Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, at his palace in Oyo Town.
Musawa, who was accompanied by her Special Assistant on Sub-national Development and Engagement, Hon. Abiola Abdulkareem Jagunlabi, congratulated Oba Owoade on ascending the revered throne, describing the Alaafin stool as “one of the most enduring symbols of Yoruba civilisation and leadership.”
She praised the cultural and spiritual significance of the Alaafin’s Palace, calling it “a beacon of cultural continuity and resilience,” and noted its importance in preserving the Yoruba heritage.
“The federal government, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recognises the vital role traditional rulers play in fostering peace, preserving our heritage, and advancing grassroots development,” she said.
Highlighting the legacy of Oyo as a cultural capital and the historical symbolism of Sango, Musawa emphasized the potential of Nigeria’s heritage to boost domestic and international tourism.
She assured the monarch that her ministry would deepen collaboration with traditional institutions to strengthen the creative economy and promote cultural tourism in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Partnerships with revered thrones like the Alaafin’s are key to building a creative economy that truly reflects the Nigerian soul and creates jobs across our communities,” she stated.
