Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), emphasized the Federal Government’s strong determination to elevate Galaxy Backbone into a more dynamic, responsive, and influential organization. He highlighted its crucial role as a driving force behind the national digital public infrastructure and the efficient delivery of government services in the digital age.
According to a statement released by the director of information in the SGF’s office, Segun Imohiosen, Senator George Akume will serve as the chairman of the newly constituted board. The board’s membership comprises representatives from various key government bodies and experienced professionals. These members include Rabi’a Adamu Waziri from the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Abubakar Abdulqadir Maje from Joint Stock Association (JSA), and Kemi Owonubi representing the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI).
Other distinguished members of the board are Mrs. Margareth Ene Ebute from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, Honourable Olulade Olusegun, Olumbe Akinkugbe, Sanni Ibrahim Mohammed, and Adama Pindar, all representing Galaxy Backbone Limited. This diverse composition of the board is expected to bring a wealth of expertise and perspectives to guide the agency’s strategic direction.
In his acceptance speech, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone Limited, Professor Ibrahim Adepoju Adeyanju, conveyed the board’s collective commitment to fostering sustainability within the organization’s operations. He also outlined the board’s immediate priorities, which include realigning Galaxy Backbone’s institutional vision and establishing a robust foundation to effectively achieve its overarching strategic goals in the realm of digital transformation.
Professor Adeyanju further highlighted a significant achievement of the agency: the development of its Integrated Digital Transformation Strategy (IDTS) within a remarkable timeframe of one year. This comprehensive strategy is set to guide Galaxy Backbone’s initiatives and operations from 2025 through 2028, signifying a proactive and forward-looking approach to advancing Nigeria’s digital agenda. The inauguration of this new board marks a pivotal moment for Galaxy Backbone and Nigeria’s journey towards a digitally empowered future.
