**Abuja, Nigeria** — The Federal Government has announced a significant increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, raising it from N33,000 to N77,000, effective July 2024.
The announcement was made via a statement on the NYSC’s official Facebook page on Wednesday evening. The statement confirmed that the increment aligns with the newly enacted National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
The letter detailing the increase, signed by National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission Chairman Mr. Ekpo Nta, was dated September 25, 2024.
Prior to the announcement, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the NYSC Director General, had engaged in advocacy discussions with the Commission’s Chairman, seeking an enhanced welfare package for corps members.
General Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely initiative, stating that the increase would not only provide much-needed support but also boost morale among corps members, motivating them to contribute even more effectively to national service.
