First Lady Remi Tinubu Commissions 336-Bed Orphanage in Nasarawa

Senator Remi Tinubu, has reaffirmed her commitment to child welfare, emphasizing that the well-being of all children, regardless of background, is a key pillar of national development under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

She made this statement while inaugurating a 336-bed facility for the Nana Berry Orphanage and Children’s Home in New Nyanya, Nasarawa State.

“I first learned about the plight of the children of Nana Berry Orphanage while watching an interview with the Founder on NTA in early 2023. As a mother, I knew I had to act,” she said.

Encouraging caregivers to provide love and guidance, Tinubu urged the children to embrace education and ambition. “You are special, you are loved, and you have a bright future ahead of you,” she told them.

During the commissioning, she proposed smart farming techniques as an alternative when the founder, Aishatu Kwalmi, requested land for a farm. “This place is big enough. Interest must remain undivided, or the children may suffer,” she noted, suggesting bucket farming as an innovative and space-efficient solution.

The First Lady commended Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule, represented by Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe, for supporting the project. Akabe reiterated the state’s commitment to social welfare, promising continued partnership with the orphanage.

Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighted the project’s role in achieving SDG Goals 4 and 5—quality education and gender equality.

The orphanage, built on 4,000 square meters, includes a 100-bed boys’ hostel, a 100-bed girls’ hostel, classrooms, sick bays, staff quarters, and playgrounds, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for vulnerable children.
