Nigeria may face a nationwide fuel scarcity as the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to settle unpaid bridging claims totaling N100 billion.
In a communique released on Monday, IPMAN’s Depot Chairmen Forum accused the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of failing to address their demands despite promises made over a year ago.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Yahaya Alhassan, chairman of the forum, warned that if the government does not clear the debt within seven working days, marketers will halt the loading and distribution of petroleum products nationwide.
Alhassan stressed that the prolonged delay has put severe financial strain on marketers, making it difficult for them to sustain operations.
He urged the federal government to act swiftly to prevent disruptions that could lead to long queues at fuel stations and economic hardship for Nigerians.
With the deadline fast approaching, all eyes are on the government’s response to avert a looming fuel crisis.
