Funding Shortage Hits Regional Development Ministry

The Ministry of Regional Development (MRD) has expressed concerns over funding shortages, revealing that only N14.1 billion of the N35.2 billion approved for its projects in 2023 and 2024 has been released.

During a ministerial briefing in Abuja, Minister Engr. Abubakar Momoh and Minister of State Uba Maigari Ahmadu stated that the amount disbursed was inadequate for addressing critical infrastructure and economic development, especially in the Niger Delta.

They emphasized that without sufficient funding, key projects aimed at stabilizing the volatile region could face delays.

The briefing also highlighted the Ministry’s expanded mandate following its transition from the Ministry of Niger Delta Development in October 2024.

Now responsible for overseeing all Development Commissions nationwide, the Ministry plays a crucial role in driving sustainable regional growth.

Officials urged the Federal Ministry of Finance to release the outstanding funds to ensure uninterrupted progress on vital projects.
