Governor Monday Okpebholo has raised concerns over alleged plans to stage sponsored protests in Edo State, accusing opposition figures of attempting to destabilize the state. According to the Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), certain leaders within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are behind the planned demonstrations.
In a statement released on Wednesday, APC Chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe stressed that while the governor respects citizens’ right to peaceful protest, intelligence suggests these demonstrations are being fueled by misinformation and falsehoods to incite unrest rather than address genuine concerns.
The APC claims to have identified individuals and groups involved in the plot and warned that their actions could lead to unnecessary tension. Edo residents were urged to remain vigilant and avoid being used as political pawns in a bid to disrupt the state’s progress.
“We encourage those with legitimate concerns to engage with the appropriate government agencies for dialogue,” the statement read. “The administration is fully prepared to maintain peace and security, and law enforcement agencies are on high alert to prevent any breakdown of order.”
The party also called on parents, community leaders, and stakeholders to discourage participation in what it described as a politically motivated scheme. It warned that some individuals were only seeking to create division for their own selfish interests.
Reaffirming support for Governor Okpebholo, the APC assured citizens that his administration remains focused on good governance and development. Residents were urged to stay calm, continue their daily activities, and support efforts to maintain peace and progress in Edo State.
