Governor Mbah Silences Critics With Action

Dr. Peter Mbah first emerged as a candidate for Enugu State Governor, I was skeptical — even dismissive. I didn’t know him, and like many others, I questioned how someone from outside the state’s traditional political framework could step in and lead. As a strong supporter of Ike Ekweremadu, I had already committed to a vision of leadership based on years of experience and social justice, shaped by my time working closely with him in the Senate.

So when Mbah’s name came up, I wasn’t interested. Sure, people spoke highly of his private sector achievements, but I saw him as a political outsider — untested, unfamiliar, and maybe even a disruption to the political balance. At the time, I believed true governance needed seasoned hands, not someone who hadn’t been part of the grind in state politics. I feared he wouldn’t recognize the core activists who have been the engine of past progress.

Then came the primaries. Against all odds and without a visible political machine, Mbah shocked many by securing the PDP ticket. He wasn’t just another businessman seeking power — he came armed with bold ideas, most notably “disruptive innovation.” His belief was clear: Enugu could not grow if it remained stuck in a system that rewarded mediocrity. He promised radical transformation and aimed to expand the state’s economy from $4.5 billion to $30 billion in just eight years. Many scoffed, but I found myself intrigued.

His campaign wasn’t just talk. “Tomorrow is Here” became more than a slogan; it was a blueprint. He proposed a new model of governance focused on innovation, planning, and fearless execution. For the first time, I saw a politician speak with a depth that suggested serious preparation — not vague promises, but real, researched strategies. I wanted to believe, but experience had taught me to wait and see.

Now, nearly two years into his term, I can confidently say I was wrong. Governor Mbah’s administration is delivering in ways that no one — including myself — expected. His push for industrialization, digital governance, and social development has elevated Enugu to national relevance. People now speak of our state with admiration. I recently sat in a room full of Nigerians from different regions, and when I said I was from Enugu, they nodded with genuine respect. That pride was new for me.

My transformation from skeptic to supporter didn’t happen overnight, but it’s real. Like Saul on the road to Damascus, I now see clearly. Governor Mbah has proven himself not only worthy of the office but capable of exceeding expectations. And with that, I proudly advocate for the continuity of this new chapter — beyond 2027.
