The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has condemned the recent wave of violence in Plateau State that has led to multiple deaths and injuries. The forum described the incident as heartbreaking and urged for calm and unity during this difficult time.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, the forum expressed deep sympathy with the people and government of Plateau, as well as the families of those affected. It said the incident was especially tragic, considering the state had been enjoying a period of peace.
“This is sad and unhelpful,” the NGF said. “Plateau had been seeing a long stretch of harmony and peace, made possible by the combined efforts of government, traditional rulers, and community leaders.” The forum urged all stakeholders to work together to preserve the progress already made.
They called on religious and community leaders to support Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang in calming tensions and promoting reconciliation. The statement emphasized the need for unity and collaboration to build lasting peace in the state.
The governors reminded everyone that the victims of the violence are not just statistics. “They are the breadwinners, hopes, and pride of many families,” the statement said. It called for an immediate end to the bloodshed and urged Nigerians to see one another as members of the same human family.
The NGF concluded by praying for the souls of the departed and wishing a quick recovery to the injured. It called for continued dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution as the only path forward for Plateau and the nation as a whole.
