Alongside Gumel, Moustapha Berraf, the Algerian President of ANOCA, was also re-elected unopposed, reflecting stability and unity within the organization. Both leaders have played pivotal roles in shaping the Olympic movement across the continent.

Gumel currently serves as the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and is Nigeria’s only member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). His continued role in ANOCA is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s influence in continental and global sports.

The assembly also featured a special awards ceremony where Rena Wakama, Nigeria’s D’Tigress coach for the 2024 Paris Olympics, was recognized as the Best African Coach at the Olympics. Gumel received the award on her behalf, presented by Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chair of the National Sports Commission (NSC).

With his re-election, Gumel remains a significant figure in the advancement of sports in Africa, ensuring Nigeria’s active participation in shaping the future of African athletics.
