Herder-Farmer Clash in Oyo Leaves Two Injured

A violent clash between a 20-year-old herder, Salau Isiaka, and a 25-year-old farmer, Akinkunmi Tiamiyu, in Ilowa-Gbade village, Atiba Local Government Area of Oyo State, has left both men hospitalized.

The confrontation occurred on Friday, March 21, 2025, when Isiaka allegedly led his cattle to graze on Tiamiyu’s cassava farm, leading to a heated dispute that turned violent. The herder sustained a severe head injury, while the farmer suffered deep wounds, including the loss of two fingers on his left hand.

Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday. He noted that while reports of the clash had been exaggerated, preliminary findings indicated that it stemmed from grazing rights disagreements.

Osifeso assured that both men were receiving medical attention and that the Oyo State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku had launched an in-depth probe into the matter.

The police urged residents to remain calm while they work to prevent further escalation of similar disputes in the region.
