An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has ordered the remand of 23-year-old Abiodun Adesegun at the Agodi Correctional facility over an alleged attempted murder charge.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. A. T. Oyediji, declined to take Adesegun’s plea due to the court’s lack of jurisdiction. She directed that he remain in custody pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) at the Ministry of Justice. The case was adjourned until April 10 for mention.
According to the Prosecuting Counsel, ASP Foluke Adedosu, Adesegun and others still at large committed the crime on March 11 around 9:00 p.m. at the Matala Mosque area, Oke-Adu, Ibadan. He allegedly attempted to kill one Lekan Lukman by striking his head with an axe and severely beating him with a stick.
The charges brought against Adesegun contravene Sections 320 and 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
