The much-anticipated 2025 Captain’s Cup officially teed off this morning at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja, with over 300 golfers competing for top honors. This year’s tournament, themed “Tiger Bows Out,” celebrates the successful tenure of outgoing club captain Ibrahim Babayo.
The six-day championship features a diverse lineup, including competitions for caddies and staff, men’s and women’s divisions, professional golfers, sponsors, veterans, and super veterans. The grand finale will feature an 18-hole event, followed by the presentation of trophies and prizes.
Reflecting on his tenure since April 2024, Babayo lauded his executive committee for their collective achievements. “We set our sights on our dreams, just as golfers keep their eyes on the green. Our greens are now thriving, a stark contrast to the previous state,” he stated.
Under his leadership, the club has undergone significant improvements, including:
✅ Renovation of the access gate and reception area
✅ Upgraded air-conditioning in the clubhouse
✅ Implementation of forensic audits for corporate governance
✅ Modernization of the club’s booking app and website
✅ Beautification and solar-powered lighting for all holes
He also extended his appreciation to the Organizing Committee, led by Ambassador Ben Okoyen, for ensuring a seamless tournament.
The ceremonial tee-off is expected to feature Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside other distinguished dignitaries. As the tournament unfolds, excitement continues to build, reinforcing the spirit of camaraderie and competition at this premier golfing event.
