Ighodalo Slams Okpebholo Over Bribery Claim

Dr. Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, has strongly criticized Senator Monday Okpebholo over his recent remarks on a TVC News programme, “Journalist Hangout.”

During the show, Okpebholo accused the PDP of “mopping up money to go and bribe tribunal people,” a statement Ighodalo called reckless, false, and a dangerous attempt to blackmail the judiciary.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Erhabor Emokpae, on Wednesday in Benin City, Ighodalo described Okpebholo’s comments as irresponsible and part of a desperate plot to intimidate the tribunal, mislead the public, and discredit any judgment that may not favor him.

“Let it be stated unequivocally: there is no truth to Okpebholo’s insinuation. It is a blatant lie, and he knows it,” Ighodalo said. He added that the tribunal members themselves know no such bribery attempt has occurred or could ever succeed.

According to Ighodalo, Okpebholo’s tactics are those of a sore loser trying to undermine a legal process he fears might not go his way. He insisted that Okpebholo’s real frustration stems from the simple fact that he failed to win the people’s mandate.

Ighodalo urged the public to disregard what he called Okpebholo’s “baseless propaganda,” while expressing confidence that the judiciary would act independently and fairly in delivering justice.
