INEC Notifies Senator Natasha of Recall Petition

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, of a petition seeking her recall from the Senate. The notification was issued in a letter dated March 26, signed by INEC Secretary, Mrs. Rose Oriaran Anthony.

According to INEC, the recall process follows Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). The commission confirmed receiving the petition from representatives of registered voters in her constituency and has also informed the Senate leadership.

In an update, INEC revealed that the petitioners have now submitted their contact details, as required by the 2024 Regulations and Guidelines for Recall. The next step involves verifying the signatures to confirm if more than 50% of registered voters support the petition.

INEC assured the public that this scrutiny process will be conducted transparently in the coming days. The results of the verification will determine the next course of action.

A statement by INEC National Commissioner Sam Olumekun reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to an open and credible recall process. The final decision will be made public once verification is complete.
