Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan recently accused Senator Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment following a dispute over a seat in the Senate.
However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has now announced that the petition to recall Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, does not meet the necessary requirements.
In a brief statement released Thursday, INEC clarified that the petition did not satisfy the constitutional requirements outlined in Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
“The petition for the recall of the Senator representing the Kogi Central Senatorial District has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended),” INEC wrote on its X handle.
A more detailed statement is expected to follow to provide further explanation on the commission’s decision.
