INEC Rejects Recall Petition Against Senator Natasha

INEC Rejects Recall Petition Against Senator Natasha

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing constitutional shortcomings.

This decision comes weeks after INEC initially rejected the petition due to missing contact details. The petitioners later resubmitted the document with the required information, and INEC acknowledged receipt.

However, following a review, the commission declared on Thursday that the petition still failed to meet all legal requirements as stipulated in the Nigerian Constitution.

“Consequently, the petition has not met the requirement of Section 69(a) of the Constitution. Therefore, no further action shall be taken on the recall of the Senator,” said INEC National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun.

The recall attempt followed a political dispute involving Senator Natasha and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in which she previously accused him of sexual harassment.

With INEC’s verdict, Senator Natasha remains the duly elected representative of Kogi Central Senatorial District, as no further steps will be taken on the recall process.
