By Alex Iwobi has revealed he came very close to signing for Nottingham Forest last year. The Fulham star opened up about the near move while reflecting on his current impressive form in the Premier League.
Iwobi, who helped Fulham defeat Southampton 2-1 on Saturday by providing a crucial assist, said he had discussions with Nottingham Forest in 2023. At the time, he was weighing his options before eventually settling at Craven Cottage.
Speaking to Fulham Fan News, Iwobi shared how his Super Eagles teammate Ola Aina tried to influence his decision. “There was interest, the main interest came from Nottingham Forest,” Aina said, per Fulham Fan News.
He continued, “The manager at the time called me, and he asked what I was thinking about joining. Ten minutes later, Ola (Aina) has called me, and he’s like, ‘Alex, you’re coming to Nottingham Forest; the manager just called me and said, persuade Alex’.”
Iwobi admitted the move seemed likely at one point. However, plans quickly changed. “I could have been linking up with Ola, but eventually they didn’t put in a bid, and only Fulham did, so that was that,” he said.
The decision has worked out well for the Nigerian international, who is enjoying a standout season with Fulham and continues to shine in the Premier League.
