Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy will leave the club at the end of the current season, bringing an end to a remarkable 13-year journey at the King Power Stadium.
The 38-year-old striker, who joined the Foxes from non-league side Fleetwood Town in 2012, became a symbol of Leicester’s fairytale rise in English football. He departs as the club’s record Premier League goalscorer, having netted 198 goals in 498 appearances.
Vardy’s most iconic contribution came during the 2015-16 season, where he scored 24 goals and played a key role in Leicester’s historic Premier League title win — the first in the club’s history.
In a heartfelt message shared via Leicester City’s social media, Vardy said
“To the fans of Leicester, I’m gutted that this day is coming, but I knew it was going to come eventually.
I’ve spent 13 unbelievable years at this club, with lots of success, and some downs, but the majority have all been highs.
It’s finally time to call it a day, which I’m devastated about, but I think the timing is right.”
Vardy’s departure marks the end of an era for Leicester, as fans prepare to say goodbye to one of the greatest strikers in the club’s history.
