Hon. Yusuf Shitu Galambi, the lawmaker representing Gwaram federal constituency of Jigawa State, has defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Galambi’s defection was announced in a letter read by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen during the House of Representatives plenary on Thursday.
Explaining his decision, the lawmaker cited the ongoing crisis within the NNPP, including internal disputes and legal battles that have disrupted the party’s operations.
His move adds to the growing number of opposition lawmakers switching to the APC, bringing the total number of defections in the 10th House of Representatives to 11.
Among the other defectors are Hon. Chris Nkwonta (Abia), Hon. Eriatheke Ibori-Suenu (Delta), Hon. Suleiman Gumi (Zamfara), and Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji (Kaduna).
Political analysts see the wave of defections as a sign of growing instability within opposition parties ahead of the next election cycle.
