Goodluck Jonathan continues to receive praise for his historic decision that prevented potential unrest in Nigeria.
Ambassador Simeon Uwah, executive secretary of the International Supreme Council for Peace in Africa (ISCP), described Jonathan’s concession as a “political masterstroke” that averted chaos and set a benchmark for African democracy.
Speaking in Uyo, Uwah emphasized that Jonathan’s peaceful exit remains a model for leaders clinging to power despite public discontent. He highlighted the significance of Jonathan’s phone call to Buhari, which symbolized a commitment to peace and national stability.
“In an era where African leaders resort to violence or electoral disputes to retain power, Jonathan’s concession remains a defining moment for democratic growth,” Uwah noted, urging African leaders to adopt his approach.
With political instability rising across the continent, Uwah called on the African Union (AU) and ECOWAS to institutionalize peaceful transitions as a democratic standard to prevent further crises.
He also advocated for collaborative governance, urging future leaders to embrace bipartisanship and national reconciliation to strengthen democracy in Africa.
