JOSTUM Shuts Down Over Student Abductions

The management of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University Makurdi (JOSTUM) has ordered the closure of the institution, following the unresolved abduction of three female students who were kidnapped over a week ago.

The students remain in captivity, and the silence from their abductors has heightened anxiety within the university community. However, sources close to the situation revealed that the kidnappers have quietly demanded a ransom of N40 million for their release.

In a statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Dr. John David, the management said the Committee of Deans and Directors met on Friday, February 28, 2025, and decided to send all students home until further notice.

The closure comes as students, parents, and staff grow increasingly restless over the security situation and the lack of progress in securing the release of the abducted students.

While the school’s statement did not directly mention the ransom demand, insiders confirmed that negotiations are ongoing behind the scenes, with security agencies also involved in tracking the kidnappers.

The university urged students to vacate both hostels and campus immediately, promising to update the public once the situation improves and safety can be guaranteed.
