Kano Governor Bans Forced Labour for Students

Abba Yusuf, has strictly warned schoolteachers against forcing students into manual labour within or outside school premises.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the governor emphasized that schools should focus on education and moral guidance, not hard labour.

During an unscheduled visit to the School for Arabic Studies, Yusuf was shocked to see students digging a toilet pipeline. Despite the headmaster’s claim that the work was assigned after school hours, the governor insisted the practice must stop immediately.

To address infrastructure issues, Yusuf assured that his administration would renovate dilapidated structures, including the school mosque, and directed that all school projects be submitted to the Ministry of Education for proper execution.

In a related development, the governor inspected reconstruction work at Kano Printing Press, damaged during the #EndBadGovernance protests in 2024. He expressed concern over the structural quality and ordered the contractor to adhere to approved standards.

These actions reaffirm the governor’s commitment to education reform and proper infrastructure development in Kano State.
