Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has announced reduced working hours for state workers to allow them more time for religious activities during Ramadan.
From now until the end of Ramadan, workers will work from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Fridays. This was confirmed by Auwal Manu Dogondaji, the state’s commissioner for establishment, pension, and training, who spoke on behalf of the governor.
The governor said the adjustment was made to give workers time to attend important Islamic obligations such as tafsir sessions and other acts of worship during the holy month.
Normal working hours—8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday—will resume after Ramadan ends.
Governor Idris urged Muslim residents to take advantage of the season to pray for lasting peace, development, and prosperity in Kebbi State and Nigeria as a whole.
The gesture has been welcomed by many workers and religious leaders, who say it reflects the administration’s sensitivity to the spiritual needs of its people.
