Kebbi Starts Renovation of Oldest Hospital

The Kebbi State government has officially started renovating Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital in Birnin Kebbi, one of the state’s oldest healthcare facilities.

To ensure services are not disrupted during the renovation, the hospital management has temporarily relocated some departments to Kebbi Medical Centre in Kalgo.

This was confirmed by the hospital’s permanent secretary and chief medical director, Dr. Zaki Abubakar Zaki, during a press briefing at the Press Centre in Birnin Kebbi.

Dr. Zaki explained that Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, built in 1952, is overdue for upgrades to meet modern healthcare needs and handle today’s medical challenges.

He praised Governor Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for prioritizing the health sector, noting that the governor’s concern for the wellbeing of Kebbi residents led to the decision to renovate the historic hospital.

Zaki assured residents that patient care will continue smoothly at the temporary location in Kalgo until the renovation is completed, after which all services will return to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital.
