Kenya’s Edwin Kibet and Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa emerged as champions of the 10th Access Bank Lagos Marathon, cementing their dominance in long-distance racing.

Kibet claimed victory in the men’s category, crossing the finish line in an impressive time of 2:14:19, improving on last year’s winning time of 2:16:49 set by fellow Kenyan Bernard Sang. Meanwhile, Hirpa secured her first-ever Lagos Marathon title, defeating her Ethiopian compatriots in the women’s race.

Despite arriving late in Nigeria and lacking adequate rest, Kibet displayed remarkable endurance and determination to outpace his competitors. His resilience paid off as he claimed the $50,000 prize money for his outstanding performance.

The race, which has grown in global prestige over the years, saw fierce competition among elite runners from around the world. The Lagos Marathon continues to attract top-tier talent, reinforcing its status as one of Africa’s premier road races.
