Kevin de Bruyne has announced he will leave Manchester City when his contract expires at the end of the current season. The 33-year-old Belgium international has enjoyed a remarkable career at City, winning 16 trophies, including six Premier League titles and the 2023 Champions League.
De Bruyne joined City from Wolfsburg in 2015 for £55 million, and during his tenure, he has scored 106 goals in 413 appearances across all competitions. However, this season he has started just 19 games.
“Every story comes to an end, but this has definitely been the best chapter,” De Bruyne shared on social media, reflecting on his time at the club. “This city. This club. These people gave me everything. I had no choice but to give everything back. And guess what – we won everything.”
De Bruyne, who has battled injury in recent years, missed almost five months last season, despite helping City secure four consecutive league titles. He has also had discussions about his future, with links to a move to Saudi Arabia.
The midfielder leaves City as the Premier League’s all-time leader in assists (117) and chances created (827), among other impressive records. He has won two Premier League Player of the Season awards and has been key to City’s most successful era.
Despite his departure, De Bruyne expressed deep gratitude for his time in Manchester, saying, “This will always be our home. We cannot thank the city, club, staff, team-mates, friends, and family enough for this 10-year ride.”
