By British Monarch King Charles III has expressed admiration for Pidgin English after listening to Nigerian music star Davido’s song Kante, which is featured on his newly launched Apple Music radio show, The King’s Music Room.
The playlist, personally curated by the King, includes tracks that have brought him joy over the years. Davido, a five-time Grammy nominee, is the only Nigerian artist on the list, alongside South African music legend Miriam Makeba.
Speaking about the selection, King Charles recalled his attempt to speak Nigerian Pidgin during a visit to the country, stating.
“It also features lyrics in Pidgin, which I love in all its forms and which I attempted to make a speech with when I last visited Nigeria. I understand now, thanks to Afrobeats, it is becoming more popular.”
Davido’s Kante, featuring Fave, is a standout track from his Grammy-nominated album Timeless, which was released in 2023 and achieved massive commercial success.
