King Sunny Ade Debunks Kidnap Rumour: “I Am Safe and Sound”

King Sunny Ade has broken his silence to firmly dismiss widespread rumours that he was kidnapped. Speaking to LEADERSHIP on Tuesday, the 77-year-old icon assured fans and well-wishers that he is safe, sound, and in good spirits.

The music maestro, fondly known as KSA, said he had been inundated with concerned phone calls since the rumour began circulating on Monday night. “I am loved by many and your prayers over me are being answered. Thank you,” he said in Yoruba, adding, “I am safe and sound as you can hear my voice.”

His wife, Dr. Bose Olubo-Adegeye, founder of the Amazon Nature Clinic, also contacted the newspaper to reaffirm her husband’s well-being. The couple’s calm response further helped to dispel panic among fans and the music community.

The rumour had gained traction online before veteran journalist and former publicist Tope Olukole took to social media to debunk it. In a post, he relayed a statement from KSA’s son and manager, Dayo Adegeye, who labelled the reports as “malicious” and completely untrue.

“We want to assure the public that King Sunny Ade is safe and sound,” Dayo said. “There is no truth to the kidnapping rumour, and we’re taking appropriate steps to identify the source of this misinformation.”

The incident sparked concern nationwide, highlighting the lasting influence and beloved status of King Sunny Ade, often hailed as the King of World Beats. For now, fans can rest easy knowing their legend is doing just fine.
