The Kogi State Government has approached the Court of Appeal in Abuja to challenge the ruling that removed Alhaji Tijani Ahmed-Anaje as the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland.
State Attorney General Muiz Abdullahi, SAN, confirmed the development to journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday evening.
The appeal follows a State High Court ruling on Monday, which nullified Ahmed-Anaje’s appointment. The case was brought by Daudu Adeku-Ojiah, Hussain Yusuf, and Abdulrahaam Suberu, who argued that his selection by former Governor Yahaya Bello was unlawful.
Justice Umar Salisu, who presided over the case, ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, ordering Ahmed-Anaje’s removal.
The lawsuit initially began in Okene before being transferred to Lokoja, with the plaintiffs represented by Lawal Rabana, SAN. The case named Governor Ahmed Ododo, the Attorney General, and the deposed Ohinoyi as the first, second, and third defendants, respectively.
With the appeal now filed, the legal battle over the traditional stool of Ebiraland is set to continue.
