The Kogi State Government has announced plans to establish 46 new secondary schools and renovate 726 existing ones to enhance education and life skills for over 20,000 adolescent girls under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE).
The initiative, supported by the World Bank and the Federal Government, will also introduce safe spaces in 100 schools to provide mentorship, peer support, and guidance to help young girls navigate academic and social challenges.

46 new secondary schools for adolescent girls
Renovation of 726 existing schools with modern facilities, computers, and technology
Safe spaces in 100 schools for mentorship and support
21 vocational centers for out-of-school girls, providing literacy and vocational training
Scholarships (₦10,000 – ₦50,000) for girls in public secondary schools
Conditional cash transfers to increase school retention rates
Modern infrastructure upgrades with furniture, instructional materials, and solar-powered toilets
ICT hubs to promote digital literacy and equip students with technological skills
Dr. Abdulhakeem Bello, AGILE State Coordinator, emphasized that the initiative aims to empower young girls with essential skills in health, relationships, advocacy, and decision-making.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ workshop organized with the New Initiative for Social Development (NISD), Dr. Saidu Alaji, representing the Commissioner for Education, highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in tackling education challenges.
Meanwhile, Engr. Stephen Tsalo, Executive Director of NISD, noted that the AGILE Project (2025–2027) aims to support 21,634 adolescent girls in Kogi State. The initiative focuses on peer mentorship, personal development, and behavioral change to reduce teenage pregnancy and school dropout rates.
With stakeholder engagement and adaptive strategies, the Kogi State Government seeks to create a sustainable education model that prepares young girls for leadership and lifelong success.
