Kremlin Says Putin Ready to Talk to Trump, Awaits Response

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is open to talks with U.S. President Donald Trump about the ongoing war in Ukraine. “Putin is ready. We are waiting for signals,” Peskov told the press, signaling Russia’s willingness to discuss the issue. Both leaders have previously shown interest in holding talks, but the war has created significant tensions.

Trump, who recently became president, has warned Russia of tougher sanctions if it doesn’t agree to end the conflict. Trump has long believed in his ability to negotiate peace but now plans to use economic pressure as a key part of his strategy.

At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Trump suggested that lowering oil prices could force Russia to end the war. “If the price came down, the Russia-Ukraine war would end immediately,” Trump said, mentioning that he would engage Saudi Arabia and OPEC to help reduce oil prices.

However, the Kremlin rejected Trump’s suggestion that the war is connected to oil prices. Peskov said the conflict is more about security concerns than economics. “This conflict does not depend on oil prices,” Peskov stated, adding that Russia’s actions are based on protecting its national security and the safety of Russian people living in Ukraine.

Peskov also criticized the U.S. and European countries for refusing to consider Russia’s concerns, claiming this has fueled the ongoing war.

While a meeting between Putin and Trump is still possible, Peskov declined to say when or how talks might happen, saying it’s difficult to predict the future.
