Kwara Workers Rejoice Over Early Salary

In a pleasant surprise just before Easter, civil servants in Kwara State have received their April salaries early, sparking widespread joy and relief among workers and pensioners across the state.

Reports indicate that many workers began receiving salary alerts on Thursday evening. The early payment came as a surprise, especially as it arrived mid-month, well ahead of the usual schedule.

Pensioners also confirmed receiving their entitlements, marking a double win for the state’s workforce. Several beneficiaries, speaking in Ilorin on Friday, expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for what they described as a timely and thoughtful move.

One civil servant, Mrs. Victoria Afolayan, said she was “very happy” after getting her alert on Thursday. Another worker, Malam Saheed Shehu, also confirmed he had been paid and said the gesture would ease Easter celebrations for Christian workers and their families.

The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kwara State, Comrade Murtala Olayinka, commended the governor for prioritising workers’ welfare. “At a time like this, workers are always stranded financially. If salaries are not paid, how would civil servants and their families celebrate Easter?” he said.

The early salary payment is seen by many as a positive gesture and a reflection of responsible governance. As workers head into the holiday, the mood across the state is one of gratitude and celebration.
