The Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), located in Malete, has officially approved the promotion of three dedicated staff members to the esteemed rank of professor. In addition to this significant academic advancement, the Council also ratified the promotion of twenty-five other staff members to the position of associate professor, marking a substantial period of academic growth within the institution.
According to an official statement released by the Acting Director of University Relations, Dr. Saeedat Aliyu, these promotions to the ranks of professor and associate professor were formally ratified during the 73rd meeting of the University Council, which took place on Thursday, April 10, 2025. This decision underscores the university’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the scholarly achievements and contributions of its faculty members across various disciplines.
The three newly appointed professors hail from the faculties of Agriculture, Arts, and Education, representing a diverse range of academic specializations. Professor Shehu Abdulganiyu Salau specializes in Agricultural Production Economics, bringing his expertise to the Faculty of Agriculture. Professor Moshood Zakariyah’s specialization lies in Sociolinguistics within the Faculty of Arts, while Professor Olayiwola Gafar Olorisade has been recognized for his extensive knowledge in Educational Administration within the Faculty of Education.
The twenty-five newly promoted associate professors represent an equally broad spectrum of academic fields, spanning across several faculties within Kwara State University. These faculties include Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Law, Management and Social Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences, highlighting the depth and breadth of academic talent within the university.
Within the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Latifat Olatinwo and Dr. Felicia Olooto, both specialists in Agriculture Extension and Rural Development, have been promoted. They are joined by Dr. Olarinke Adeniyi, an expert in Aquaculture Management; Dr. James Adebayo Ojo, specializing in Entomology; and Dr. Akeem Raji, whose expertise lies in Food Processing Technology. The Faculty of Arts sees the promotion of Dr. Yahya Toyin Muritala, specializing in Arabic Syntax, Modern Arabic Linguistics, and Translation; Dr. Yunusa Jamiu, a specialist in Modern Arabic Literature; Dr. Oluwatomi Adeoti, focusing on Pragmatics and Discourse Studies; Dr. Sherifat Abubakar, an expert in Islamic Family Law and Gender Studies; and Dr. Khalid I Bello, specializing in Islamic Economics.
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology welcomes Dr. Olalekan Ogunbiyi, specializing in Power System and Automatic Control Engineering; Dr. Rasheed Busari, an expert in Farm Power and Machinery; and Engineer Dr. Kamoru Oladosu, whose focus is on Production and Renewable Energy. From the Faculty of Education, Dr. Usman Tunde Saadu, specializing in Educational Psychology, has been promoted, along with Dr. Ronke Seyi Babatunde of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, whose expertise lies in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. The Faculty of Law sees the promotion of Dr. Olariyike Akintoye, specializing in Property and Business Law, and Dr. Abdullahi Ishola, an expert in Islamic Law.
The Council of the University also ratified the promotion of three individuals from the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences: Dr. Abdullahi Alabi, specializing in Comparative Politics and Administration; Dr. Idris Mohammed, an expert in Development Studies and Local Government Administration; and Dr. Ibrahim Salawu, whose focus is on Public Policy and Governance. Finally, the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science celebrates the promotion of Dr. Emmanuel Irondi, specializing in Food and Nutritional Biochemistry; Dr. Abdulazeez Jimoh, an expert in Numerical Analysis and Computational Mathematics; Dr. Kazeem Issa, specializing in Numerical Analysis; Dr. Wasiu Yahya, focusing on Theoretical and Computational Physics; and Dr. Abiodun Obembe, whose expertise lies in Entomology.
