The Labour Party (LP) aims to use the November 8, 2025, Anambra gubernatorial election as a test run for its anticipated victory in the 2027 presidential race, according to its national chairman, Julius Abure.
Speaking in Awka at a forum organized by the party’s Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration (DMI), Abure—represented by LP’s national women leader, Mrs. Dudu Manuga—emphasized that the party is now a formidable national force.
“We want to use Anambra to test what 2027 will be. Labour Party has grown beyond a briefcase party; we are in all states of Nigeria and Abuja, and we are getting ready not just for Anambra but for 2027,” he stated.
He urged party members to remain united after the primary election, set for Saturday, stressing that internal divisions must be set aside for victory in the November polls.
The forum, aimed at connecting aspirants with party members, saw the attendance of Dr. George Moghalu and Mr. John Nwosu. However, Nwosu left before the event commenced, reportedly due to an emergency.
The party’s national secretary, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, later confirmed that Nwosu had informed him of his reason for leaving, dismissing any speculations of internal discord.
