Makinde Halts Aleshinloye Market Demolition, Pledges Fire Safety Measures

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has suspended the planned demolition of a section of Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan until an alternative is provided for affected traders.

During an inspection on Tuesday, Makinde expressed regret that the market’s fire station failed to prevent the recent blaze that destroyed goods in March. He pledged to restructure the market to prevent future incidents and improve fire response.

The governor also announced palliatives for traders affected by the fire and assured collaboration between the state government, Ibadan South-West Local Government, and Ibadan South LCDA to cushion the impact.

“We must organize the market properly and ensure the fire station is functional. Additionally, no demolition will happen until an alternative is in place,” Makinde stated.

He urged market traders to exercise caution in storing flammable materials, emphasizing fire prevention over damage control.
