Microsoft Invests $1M in AI Training for Nigerians

Microsoft has committed $1 million to train one million Nigerians in artificial intelligence (AI) skills, aiming to boost the country’s digital economy.

The initiative was announced on Wednesday during the Microsoft AI Tour in Lagos, highlighting the company’s dedication to empowering Nigeria’s workforce with cutting-edge technology.

The Microsoft AI Tour is a global event that gathers business leaders, experts, and AI enthusiasts to explore the future of artificial intelligence. With Nigeria’s AI market expected to grow by 27.08% annually from 2025 to 2030, the country is positioned to benefit significantly from AI advancements.

Projections suggest that AI could contribute an estimated $15 billion to Nigeria’s GDP by 2030, provided the workforce gains the necessary skills and access to technology.

Microsoft’s AI Skilling Initiative aligns with Nigeria’s draft National AI Strategy, which aims to train 70% of the country’s young workforce in AI-related skills.

Through collaboration with the Nigerian government, the investment seeks to bridge the skills gap, enhance job opportunities, and prepare Nigerians for the evolving digital landscape.
