Namadi Sambo Disowns Umar Sani’s Statements

Former Vice President Namadi Sambo has distanced himself from public statements made by Umar Sani, clarifying that Sani has not been his spokesperson since 2016. He stated that any political opinions expressed by Sani are personal and should not be attributed to him.

In a statement released over the weekend, Sambo’s aide, Yinka Ibrahim, urged media organizations to stop associating Sani’s views with the former Vice President. “It should be placed on record, once again, that Umar Sani is no longer authorized to speak on behalf of former Vice President Namadi Sambo,” the statement read.

The clarification follows recent media reports that mistakenly linked Sani’s comments to Sambo. The statement emphasized that only official communications from the former Vice President’s office should be considered as representing his stance on political matters.

Sani had previously served as Sambo’s Director General of Media and Publicity, as well as Senior Special Assistant on Media during his tenure as Kaduna State Governor and later as Vice President. However, since 2016, he has had no official role in Sambo’s communications.

The former Vice President’s office reiterated that any public statements from Sani do not reflect Sambo’s views and called on media outlets to verify sources before publishing. The statement stressed the importance of accurate reporting in public discourse.

Media organizations and the public were advised to rely only on verified communications from Sambo’s official office for any statements or clarifications regarding his political positions.
