NASS Adjusts 2025 Budget Over Allocation Errors

The National Assembly has amended the 2025 budget to correct allocation errors, making key adjustments to federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).

The revisions include a N500 billion reduction in Capital Expenditure and a corresponding N500 billion increase in Recurrent (Non-Debt) Expenditure. Despite these changes, the total budget remains at N54.9 trillion.

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, Adeola Olamilekan, sponsored the motion for the amendment, which was debated in Abuja.

Under the new adjustments, Recurrent Expenditure has risen from N13 trillion to N13.5 trillion, while Capital Expenditure has been lowered from N23.9 trillion to N23.4 trillion.

Key sectors affected include defence, the National Security Adviser’s office, police, and the information ministry.

Lawmakers emphasized that the amendments were necessary to correct discrepancies and ensure efficient allocation of resources.
