National Assembly Delays Resumption to May 6

The National Assembly has shifted its resumption date to May 6, 2025, extending the break initially set to end on April 29.

The Senate and House of Representatives had gone on recess on March 27 to observe the Eid-el-Fitr and Easter holidays. But just over a week before lawmakers were expected back, the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Barr. Kamoru Ogunlana, announced a new resumption date.

In a statement signed on Monday, April 21, Ogunlana explained that the extension is meant to allow lawmakers mark Workers’ Day (May 1) with their constituents.

“I am directed to inform Distinguished Senators, Honourable Members, and the general public that the two Houses of the National Assembly have extended the date for the resumption of plenary sessions from Tuesday, 29th April 2025, to Tuesday, 6th May 2025,” he said.

According to him, the shift also gives lawmakers time to attend to other constituency engagements before returning to the legislative chambers.
