The Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, has emphasized the critical role of a board of directors in ensuring corporate governance within the agency.
Speaking at a Corporate Governance and Board Management Seminar in Lagos, Najomo stressed that boards provide strategic direction, oversee management, and make key decisions guided by the Civil Aviation Act.
He noted that aviation parastatals, including NCAA, can have boards appointed at any time, citing the recent inauguration of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Board as an example.
Najomo stated that the NCAA Board, once constituted, must operate efficiently within the framework of the Civil Aviation Act 2022, which aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) safety oversight standards.
He also highlighted that the Head of NCAA’s Directorate of Legal Services will serve as the Board Secretary, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations.
Tracing its roots to Decree No. 49 of 1999, the NCAA’s legal framework has evolved into the Civil Aviation Act 2022, which defines the authority’s functions, powers, and governance structure.
