NCC Approves OPay’s Enhanced Security Measures to Safeguard User Funds

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given its official approval to OPay’s latest suite of security enhancements aimed at protecting users’ funds and personal data.

As a licensed Mobile Money Operator (MMO), OPay is committed to complying with the highest regulatory standards and has introduced several new measures to ensure that users can safely manage their financial transactions in an increasingly digital landscape.

Among the newly introduced security features, OPay has launched USSD codes that allow users to lock their accounts and cards immediately in case of theft or misplaced devices. Specifically, the *955*131# USSD code enables users to lock their OPay accounts, while *955*132# locks their OPay cards. These codes provide users with immediate control over their financial security, allowing them to act quickly to prevent unauthorized transactions.

In addition to these security features, OPay has been proactive in educating its users about common threats such as phishing scams and fraudulent activities. The company regularly sends out SMS and in-app notifications to remind users never to share their One-Time Passwords (OTPs) or account details with anyone, including OPay staff, who would never request this information.

These initiatives come at a time when digital payments in Nigeria are growing rapidly, with an increasing number of individuals and businesses shifting from traditional banking to mobile payment platforms. By combining these innovative security features with strong regulatory compliance, OPay is helping to create a safer digital financial ecosystem for users.

The NCC’s endorsement of OPay’s efforts signals its support for the ongoing evolution of the digital payment sector in Nigeria, where both financial institutions and regulatory bodies play a crucial role in safeguarding the public’s financial security.

As cyber threats become more sophisticated, OPay’s initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to ensuring that users’ funds remain protected, even as the country embraces the future of mobile money.
