NCC Introduces New Satellite Communication Rules for Nigeria

DID YOU KNOW

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has rolled out new rules to manage satellite communication services across the country. These new guidelines, which started in November 2018, aim to make satellite services in Nigeria more organized and better regulated.

The new guidelines are designed to help improve the space-based communication industry in Nigeria by setting clear licensing rules for satellite operators. These rules help encourage more investment in the sector and ensure that companies follow proper procedures.

Under the new system, both space segment operators (who manage the satellites in space) and ground segment operators (who handle services on the ground) need to be licensed by the NCC. The commission also publishes a list of authorized operators to make sure only the right companies are providing services in Nigeria.

The NCC has made it clear that space segment operators can only offer their services to licensed ground segment operators, creating a more secure and controlled system. The lists of authorized operators will be updated regularly to keep track of who’s allowed to operate.

With these new rules, the NCC is working to ensure that satellite communications in Nigeria are safe, efficient, and competitive, paving the way for better services in the country.
